Pune, with over 4 million vehicles and 1,300 more added daily, is India’s second-most congested city after Bangalore. Only 7% of land is allocated to roads—far below the recommended 15%—and just 17% of commuters rely on public transport, compared to 50% in cities like Mumbai & Delhi. This leads to sluggish traffic, impacting productivity, health, and daily convenience.
Traffic indiscipline—signal breaking, illegal parking, and lane cutting—further worsens the problem. Through My Pune Dialogue, we are crafting short- and medium-term strategies to address these challenges through joint efforts from citizens, authorities, and stakeholders.
With over 2,000 KMs of roads and 600 KMs of footpaths, Pune’s pedestrian infrastructure is a lifeline—but much of it remains unusable due to poor upkeep and encroachments.
Through #PuneWalkFest, we empower citizens to safeguard their local footpaths, ensuring they are functional and encroachment-free. By partnering with PMC and the Police Department, residents act as real-time guardians of these vital public spaces. Together, we aim to create safe and walkable pathways for everyone.
Nestled in the Sahyadri mountains, Pune was once known for its lush hills, flowing rivers, and rich biodiversity. Today, rapid urbanization and diminishing green spaces have placed the city’s ecology in peril.
Frequent floods and harsh summers are stark reminders of the environmental imbalance. Restoring Pune’s natural heritage requires collective action among citizens, authorities, and experts. Together, we can create sustainable, balanced growth while preserving the city’s essence for future generations.
TMCF and Pune Platform for Collaborative Response (PPCR) have collaborated to address the city’s growing congestion challenges. This project is being carried out under the guidance of Pune Traffic Police to develop practical and sustainable traffic management strategies. Key interventions include improving traffic flow at critical junctions, optimizing signal timings, and promoting pedestrian safety and public transport use.
This initiative also emphasizes integrating community-driven insights to ensure inclusive, effective solutions. The pilot is being carried out on Nagar Road, Koregaon Park north main road and East Avenue road leading to the airport with the assistance of students from Laxicon and Symbiosis along with task force from Cyberage group.
At MyPune.org, we believe in the transformative power of collaboration. By uniting citizens, authorities, and experts, we aim to create innovative solutions that enhance citizenship, improve mobility, build robust infrastructure, and nurture the environment. Together, we can shape a thriving, sustainable Pune for generations to come.
